Mobile App — Setup & Multiplayer Guide
Hong Kong Style Mahjong
Playing the Mobile App
How to install the app, set it up the way you like, and play with friends online.
Download & Install

Install it like any other app, open it, and you’ll land on the main menu. Everything below is set from there.
Choosing Your Tile Style
If reading the traditional Chinese tile faces is slowing you down, switch to English Tiles — the same tile set, with the Character suit shown using numbers/letters that are easier to read at a glance while you’re learning.
Menu path: Main Menu → Settings → Tiles → select English Tiles.
Minimum & Maximum Levels
Hand levels run from Level 0 (Chicken Hand) to Level 8 (the maximum — see the Payouts lesson for what each level means). Two settings control which wins are allowed in a game:
Menu path: Main Menu → Settings → Minimum Level / Maximum Level.
These apply to whichever game you start next — practice, Quick Match, or a private game — so agree on them with the table before you start if you’re playing with friends.
Turning On Flowers
Flower and Season tiles are optional bonus tiles — drawing one gives a small scoring bonus and you draw a replacement tile. They’re off by default while you’re still learning the core game.
Menu path: Main Menu → Settings → Flowers and Seasons → toggle on.
Starting a Multiplayer Game
From the main menu, open MultiPlayer (Beta). From there:
No connection? Multiplayer falls back to offline play automatically, so you can always keep playing.
Private Games & Inviting Friends
To play a table of just your own friends instead of matching with strangers, choose Start Match from the MultiPlayer (Beta) menu. This opens a table and shows a Game # code on screen.
To invite someone: share your Game # code with them however’s easiest — text, chat, whatever. If they don’t have the app yet, sending them the join link (the same code, as a link) takes them straight to the store to install it, and opens directly into your table once it’s installed.
Everyone at the table plays under whatever Minimum/Maximum Level and Flowers settings the game was started with — agree on those first if it matters to your group.
How to download the app, set up your tile style and level preferences, turn on Flowers, and play online with friends.
